What is Qigong (or Chi Kung)?
Simply put for our purposes:
-
Qi refers to the energy produced by the body and the surrounding environment, and used to support function with health and vitality. It is closely associated with controlled breathing and a calm, focused mindfulness.
-
Gong essentially means work or exercise. It is also associated with a sense of skill acquired through practice over time.
-
Therefore Qigong is the mindful practice of exercises over time, which facilitate the body’s ability to harmonize and move vital energy throughout the body. Qigong practice adopts a holistic approach, linking mind with breath and movement, to maximise health, vitality and well being.
